Ryu (Street Fighter), Roy (Fire Emblem) coming to Super Smash Bros

2249

According to seemingly legitimate leaks from Nintendo, it seems Street Fighter’s Ryu and Fire Emblem’s Roy will be joining Super Smash Bros for Wii U and 3DS soon. This will mark Ryu’s as a newcomer to the franchise and Roy’s first appearance since 2003’s Super Smash Bros Melee. Unseen64’s Liam Robertson found the footage, which has been posted in unlisted videos on YouTube.

Many fans might be slightly disappointed by the news. Since Ryu is a Street Fighter regular, being able to fight with this character won’t provide a particularly new experience. Additionally, the game play videos suggest that he plays very similar to Little Mac. Fans have already been a bit frustrated with too many clones in the game.

Fire Emblem already has four characters in Smash Bros, with three of them being similar sword-wielders. Adding Roy to the mix only add another Marth clone.

Some of the most frequently discussed characters that Nintendo fans want added to the Super Smash Bros roster include: Shovel Knight, Banjo Kazooie, Bayonetta, Splatoon characters and the return of the Ice Climbers. Nintendo hasn’t confirmed any of this information, but fans should expect updates in the coming days– including confirmation of Ryu and Roy amiibo.
